What to do in Rhode Island for the Holidays...
Check out the Lobster Trap Tree in Stonington
Well, this is technically in Connecticut, but it's close enough! Walk around & take some pictures in front of the Christmas tree made entirely out of lobster traps! The "tree" is officially light on November 26th and stays up until January 15th. You can come visit it from 4:30-9:30pm and is free to check out! Here is the website for the Information on the Tree!
Walk through the Holiday Lights Spectacular at Roger Williams Zoo
Open November 25- January 1st nightly from 5:00-9:30pm. Tickets are only sold online and must be purchased ahead of time. You will receive an entry time when you are allowed to enter the park when purchasing your ticket. The Holiday Lights Spectacular offers holiday light displays with reindeer, snowmen and much more. They use over 3 million lights for their displays! You can purchase tickets here.
Skate on Newport Harbor Island Resort Rink
The ice rink officially opens for the season on November 24th. The rink is open until 9pm on weekdays & weekends and you have a 2 hour skate time when you go. They do not take reservations so you should get there early to get some quiet time on the ice! You can rent skates there if you do not have your own. The rink offers amazing views of the Newport harbor & the bridge, especially when there is snow in the air! Check the website for the full list of pricing and hours.
Drive Through the Confreda Gardens Holiday Light Show
This light show is known as the longest running drive through light show in the state of Rhode Island. Tune your radio to enjoy the synced lights as your drive through the 1 mile light display. Enjoy Dinner & Drinks at the Coast Guard House in an Igloo
The Coast Guard House is already a Southern Rhode Island staple. Not to mention the fact that you can reserve seats in an outdoor igloo with views of the ocean. Ride the Polar Express Train in Blackstone Valley
Soooo unfortunately.. the Polar express train is all sold out for the 2023 season! Tickets go on sale in the spring for the upcoming holiday season so this is a great reminder that if you want to get tickets, get them early. This is a magical experience for kids and parents who love the Christmas spirit! Your ticket includes a 90 minute train ride with visits from Santa, games, reading of stories and even getting your golden ticket punched just like the movie! Tour the Newport Mansions
The Breakers, Marble House, and Elm are popular Newport mansions that are decorated for the holidays. Tickets can be purchased in advanced and you must arrive during the time slot given for your tour. The Sparkling Lights ticket includes a tour of the Breakers and a walkthrough of the outdoor light display. After your tour you can enjoy drinks and s'mores by the fire pits or hangout on the back terrace and stay warm. You can purchase tickets online at their website.
